Sandy Jakab

Sandy Jakab is the principal of Jakab Law & Compliance, a boutique law firm serving securities registered firms and individuals, their trade associations, and related parties. She has significant experience as a leader and senior manager in securities regulation. Between 2007 and early 2016, Sandy was the Director, Capital Markets Regulation at the BC Securities Commission. Later, at HSBC Bank Canada, Sandy held the only role in a Canadian bank directed specifically at managing conduct risk in retail and commercial banking, as well as the bank’s related securities and derivatives businesses. She has lectured and published frequently on securities regulation and taught Securities Law as an adjunct professor at UBC. She is a graduate of University of Calgary (B.A. 1982; LL.B. 1985). She was called to the bar in Alberta in 1986 and in BC in 1989.

Veronica Lilian Armstrong

Veronica Armstrong is President of Veronica Armstrong Law Corporation, which has been serving investment firms in British Columbia since June 2009.  The firm assists clients with applying for their registration as dealers or portfolio managers, writing their policies and procedures in clear language, and training their staff.

Veronica spent several years in policy development and compliance at the BC Securities Commission, where she was Acting Compliance Manager in the Capital Markets Regulation Division. Subsequently, Veronica was hired by egX Group Inc. to develop and implement listing rules for the marketplaces egX was developing around the world.

Before her arrival in Canada, Veronica was head of the international and corporate legal team of a major South African bank, where she led the legal work in international project finance and derivatives.
